Council adopts posted workers enforcement directive

The EU Council formally adopted, on 13 May, the posted workers enforcement directive. The text contains provisions designed to guarantee better implementation of Directive 96/71/EC on the posting of workers, especially in certain sectors like construction and road transport, where so-called letter-box companies (not having any real economic activity in their country of origin) use bogus posting to work around national laws on social security and working conditions.
