MEP Arlene McCarthy (S&D, UK) blasted the British coalition government's failure to act following the announcement by Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) that it was paying out millions in bonuses to its employees, on 27 February. In keeping with EU legislation (Directive 2010/76/EU, known as CRD III), shareholders in a bank may suspend the payment of bonuses in certain cases.
