Permitting and planning set for major changes in leaked European Grids Package

The package, due for issue on 10 December, would give the European Commission greater control over grid planning, prioritise eight “energy highways” for critical infrastructure and cap the wait for energy storage permits at six months. Plus, there are plans to reward local communities for approving renewable projects and for grid operators to accept connection requests by default.
