Call for TTIP energy chapter

Cañete called for the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) to include a detailed chapter on energy, while admitting he detected “not a lot of enthusiasm” for this idea in Washington. The chapter should allow the EU to freely import US gas and crude oil, and tackle issues like public intervention in pricing of energy, security of offshore drilling and biofuels sustainability criteria, he said. During his trip, Cañete met US trade representatives along with top officials in the administration and Capitol Hill.
