Latvia prepares to split its gas monopoly

Latvia, the last Baltic state to liberalise its gas market, has taken another step towards meeting the objective set by the European Union. The government has agreed in principle to split into two independent entities Latvijas Gaze (LG), the private company that holds the monopoly for the purchase, storage, transport, distribution and sale of natural gas in the country.
