Italian national Giovanni La Via (EPP) has been elected as the new chair of the European Parliament's Committee on the Environment (ENVI) by acclamation, succeeding German Socialist Matthias Groote. The first Vice-Chair, Benedek Jávor (Greens-EFA, Hungary) was elected under the same procedure.
