Jean-Claude Juncker, the European Conservatives' candidate in the race for the European Commission presidency, has stepped forward to claim his camp's victory in the European elections at pan-European level.

"The European People's Party (EPP) is winning the European elections. And it therefore claims the European Commission presidency," writes the former prime minister of Luxembourg and former Eurogroup president.
