The European Parliament adopted, on 14 January in Strasbourg, a resolution calling for measures to kick-start the development of carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology to reduce CO 2 emissions from industry and power generation. The motion (542 votes in favour and 141 against) calls on the European Commission to revise its Directive 2009/31/EC on the geological storage of carbon dioxide. With CCS plants under construction worldwide, MEPs say Europe risks losing out on export orders.
