Laurs Norlund took up office on 1 July. After beginning his career in the Danish Foreign Service, Norlund has held senior positions in the European Commission for almost 20 years. From 1995 until 1999 he served as head of cabinet for the then Commissioner for Environment and Nuclear Safety Ritt Bjerregaard.
