New Senate bill to give judicial redress to EU citizens

On 17 June, Senators Chris Murphy (Democrat, Connecticut) and Orrin Hatch (Republican, Utah) introduced draft legislation aimed at granting EU citizens the right to file a civil lawsuit in US courts if a US government agency misuses their personal data. The Judicial Redress Act entrusts the US attorney-general with the job of designating countries and federal agencies to which the law applies.
