Report details blocks on asylum

Published on 9 September by the NGO Mind the Gap and the European Council on Refugees and Exiles (ECRE), a report provides a host of statistics on asylum conditions in 15 member states, ranging from the absence of centres in France (for example: Calais) to interminable detentions in Greece, including the construction of a wall in Bulgaria at the risk of preventing asylum seekers from exercising their rights. Five countries (Germany, Sweden, France, the United Kingdom and Italy) take responsibility for 70% of requests. And despite the multiplication of conflicts on its doorstep, the EU refuses to open humanitarian corridors or issue visas via its embassies.
