Pesticides : EU list of candidates for substitution endorsed

A proposal by the European Commission to establish a new list of 77 active substances was approved by the member states on 27 January. These 'candidates for substitution' (CfS) are pesticides for which the national authorities need to carry out an assessment to establish whether more favourable alternatives to using the plant protection product exist, including non-chemical methods.
