TFEU has boosted European civil protection mechanism

Civil protection has earned its stripes under the Lisbon Treaty. Before it was signed in 2007, civil protection fell under the ‘catch-all’ article (308) of the EC treaties and the Euratom Treaty (Article 203), but the changes under Lisbon gave the EU full competence for civil protection with a proper legal base.
