With the demise of South Stream and the gas crisis in Ukraine, the proposed liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal in Krk in Croatia has become a major strategic project for the security of gas supply in South-Eastern Europe. Croatia is a member of the Central East South Europe Gas Connectivity |Group (CESEC), founded in Sofia on 9 February. It brings together countries affected by the cancellation of the South Stream project. The group discussed the need for faster implementation of projects of strategic interest and is developing a road map identifying priority infrastructure to ensure member states have at least three different sources of gas. Croatia has offered to host the group’s next meeting in June, when a final plan is expected to be adopted.
