The free trade negotiations (FTA) the EU has been conducting with Japan since 2013 are likely to extend into early 2016, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said at a press conference following the EU-Japan summit, on 29 May in Tokyo. “There is a necessity to conclude the free trade negotiations as soon as possible, possibly by the end of this year, if not in the first months of 2016,” Juncker said. “Quality is more important than speed,” he added.
