The member states’ ministers of the interior will hold a debate, on 16 June, on a mechanism for the transfer of migrants proposed by the European Commission. Germany and Sweden, the principal supporters of this measure, are pushing for a compromise. But they are up against opposition stemming mainly from the Eastern countries. Several outcomes are possible.
Italy, Greece and the Commission want the proposal to be accepted as is. The Commission’s opinion is that “the decision should be taken…
